The BSc. in Transformative Community Development programme is a response to the emerging need for Transformative Community Development professionals with competences and technical knowledge to contribute to Malawi’s farming and community development sectors. This undergraduate programme has been created at the right time when the country is asking ‘Why is there underdevelopment after more than 50 years of independence and investment in rural development?’

The BSc. in Transformative Community Development programme targets applicants who aspire to stimulate community development in a dynamic, innovative and practical manner. Students joining the BSc. in Transformative Community Development also have the opportunity to progress to our Master’s programme and later PhD programme in Transformative Community Development. Graduates in Transformative Community Development will demonstrate strong knowledge, skills and attitudes in research, community development and agriculture extension.

They will be in a position to:

Facilitate transformation and to promote and disseminate innovation through communities of practice;

  • Plan, implement, monitor and evaluate programmes
  • Deliver consultancy and advisory services in the field of community development and rural development.
  • Participate in research, analyse issues in Transformative Community Development and analyse agriculture, climate change and development policies.
