UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES (WEEKEND)
A. FACULTY OF TOURISM, HOSPITALITY AND MANAGEMENT
Bachelor of Arts (Sports Management) – Upgrading
Programme Description
The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sports Management is designed to equip an emerging cadre of sports professionals expected to drive the commercialisation and development of sports codes in Malawi. It is, therefore, targeting ambitious sports professionals across the sports sector and serving in the industry as sports administrators, sports facilities managers, sports events organiser, sports marketers as well as district and community sports officers and/or organisers. Successful candidates will join the programme at year two.
Duration of the Programme
The Programme will run for a period of three (3) years.
Entry Requirements
- Any Diploma or Degree from an accredited institution; and
- MSCE or its equivalent with at least six credits including English.
Mode of Delivery
The programme is offered during weekends as follows:
Friday to Sunday in every two weeks (fortnightly)
Friday : 3:00 pm – 9:00 pm (6 hours)
Saturday : 7:00 am – 12:00 pm (5 hours)
1:00 pm – 6:00 pm (5 hours)
Sunday : 7:00 am – 12:00 pm (5 hours
B. FACULTY OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES
Bachelor of Arts (History and Heritage Studies)
Programme Description
The aim of the programme is to provide high quality education, training and research to prospective historians and other stakeholders in History and Heritage Studies. Graduates of History and Heritage studies would work as secondary school history teachers and tutors, curators in museums, archaeologists, public history narrators, tourist managers and media institutions.
Duration of the Programme
The Programme will run for a period of four (4) years.
Entry Requirements
MSCE or its equivalent with at least six credits including English and History and any two of the following: Geography, Bible Knowledge, Social studies, and Life Skills
Mode of Delivery
The programme is offered during weekends as follows:
Friday to Sunday in every two weeks (fortnightly)

Interpretation of International Qualifications
Qualifications comparable to O-Level/IGCSE shall be interpreted as follows for purposes of admission: A*(90-
100) = 1; A(80-89) = 2; B(70-79) = 3; C(60-69) = 5; D(55-59) and E(49-54)= 7; F(40-48) and G(34-39) = 8; O(033)=9
Tuition Fees
Fees for Degree and Diploma programmes in both faculties are K450, 000. 00 per academic year.
Fees for Non-Malawian students per academic year are USD 1,500 for SADC members and USD 3,500 for nonSADC members.

All candidates will be admitted on self-sponsored category. Candidates will be expected to provide for their own board and lodge. These programmes also require students to do research projects and other academic related requirements. Candidates should, therefore, prepare for these additional costs. Detailed costs will be available to the successful students at a later stage.

All applicants should complete a Mzuzu University 2022/2023 Admission Application Form and attach applicable copies of the following documents:
- Copies of their academic qualifications,
- Previous academic record (transcripts),
- MSCE or equivalent certificates,
- Curriculum vitae, and
- A copy of the application fee bank deposit slip
Application forms can be obtained from the Porters Lodge or Registry at Mzuzu University Campus or downloaded from the website www.mzuni.ac.mw
Completed applications should be returned with a non-refundable admission application fee of K10,000 for Malawian applicants and US$ 150 for international applicants. Applications submitted without the admission application fee will be disqualified.

POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES
C. FACULTY OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES
Master of Arts (African History and Heritage)
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for a two (2) year fulltime Master of Arts (African History and Heritage) at Mzuzu University.
Aim of the Programme
The Programme aims to promote and impart advanced theoretical and practical advanced theoretical and practical knowledge and skill related to African History, culture and heritage knowledge for purpose of asserting the uniqueness of our African identity. The Programme also intends to produce human resource for history teaching as well as managers of cultural and heritage institutions such as the museums, Department of Antiquities, UNESCO, and the Malawi National Archives. The programmes shall also generate knowledge for the conservation of cultural and heritage in the country.
Nature and length of the Programme
The MA (African History and Heritage) shall run for two years. It consists of taught courses in the first year and a thesis in the second year. Candidates shall take six taught modules, three in each of the first-year semesters. In the second year, candidates shall undertake a thesis. The first semester of the second year shall be devoted to data collection, while the second semester of the same year shall be devoted to thesis writing.
Entry Requirements
- Interested candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree majoring in History and Heritage Studies, or History and or related disciplines in Education, Humanities and Social Sciences from an accredited institution.
Programme fees
The following fees will apply:
- Local students: The fees payable per student for one academic year is K1,950,000.00
- Foreign students: The fees payable per student for one academic year is US$ 4,000.00 for SADC nationals and US$ 5,000.00 for non-SADC nationals
Payment of Admission Application fee
All applicants should pay a non-refundable admission application fee of K25,000.00 for Malawian applicants and US$150 for international applicants. The application fee should be deposited directly into the following bank account:
