Dedza Secondary School student Don Chikopa is the Best Mathematics Student in this year’s Old Mutual Mathematics Olympiad Competition at Mzuzu University. Lusayo Musopole from Kamuzu Academy came second and she was also recognized as the Best Female Student while Benjamin Soko of Marist Secondary School came third.

Mathematics teachers were also awarded for their contribution. Kelvin Muhuwa, Marist Secondary School, emerged as Best Mathematics Teacher 2023; Spyton Mkwala of Kamuzu Academy was second while Frank Chimphako of Malosa Secondary School was third.

Mzuzu University Vice-Chancellor Prof. John Kalenga Saka encouraged secondary school students to tackle Mathematics and Science subjects to increase their chances of pursuing undergraduate programmes requiring excellent passes.

Old Mutual’s Chief Risk Officer Sophie Nkonjera said by promoting excellence in Mathematics teaching and learning, Old Mutual was investing in the future generation of great thinkers and problem solvers.

This year, 374 students participated in the competition and 33 students were finalists.
