Mzuzu University (MZUNI) hosted girls from selected schools in Mzimba as part of the Girls Takeover Programme organised by Plan International to celebrate International Day of the Girl Child. The programme is a celebration of girls occupying spaces where they are rarely seen or heard and making it clear that they have the right to be there without being silenced or ignored. As part of the programme, 15 girls attended the University’s Management Meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Wales Singini. Later, one girl assumed the position of Vice-Chancellor after a briefing by Professor Singini. Although the girl had occupied the seat for 40 minutes, she did not attend to the in-tray as she spent her time asking the Vice-Chancellor some questions probably preparing herself for a similar role in future. The girl took notes and promised to be back in the Office but not as a visitor. She aspires to be the first female Vice-Chancellor of MZUNI.
