Parliamentary Committee impressed with MZUNI Projects
The Parliamentary Committee on Education, Science and Technology visited Mzuzu University (MZUNI) on Monday to appreciate the development projects being implemented.
Among others, the members inspected the new MZUNI Library under construction.
MZUNI Vice-Chancellor Professor Wales Singini said huge progress has been made in the construction of the library.
“Most of the construction works have been done. The contractor, through the payments that have been happening before, has managed to procure all the materials that are required to finish the construction of this library. What has stopped the contractor from operating 100 percent is the agreement on the extension to be signed,” he said.
Chairperson of the committee Brainax Kaise said the cost adjustment is justified.
“The committee understands the issues like the devaluation and the rising cost of commodities. The committee understands the cost adjustment and the delays,” he said.
Deputy Director of Higher Education Valentino Zimpita committed that the project will fully resume soon after the agreement has been signed.
Apart from the projects, the members of the committee also participated in a discussion on the proposed amendments to the MZUNI Act. They also viewed the demonstration of the Management Information System developed by MZUNI.
