Department of Mathematics and Statistics Sciences Research.

UNEARTHING HIDDEN TREASURES

The Mathematics Department is engaged in research in various areas of mathematics. Particular focus has so far been on Error Correcting Codes and Cryptography. In this regard, the department has focused on:
Classification of Goppa codes. Goppa codes are a vast family of codes which so far have defied classification. The more one delves into them the more fascinating they appear. They hold many treasures yet to be discovered.
Secure cryptosystems
Quasicyclic codes.

Codes from graphs. These codes are obtained from the row span of adjacency and incidence matrices of various regular graphs. We determine parameters of such codes and consider how they can be efficiently decoded. Decoding methods employed have included permutation decoding, iterative decoding (message passing, belief propagation) and antiblocking decoding.
