Bachelor of Science Renewable Energy Technologies (Upgrading)

Master of Science in Energy Systems Engineering
(Postgraduate)

Postgraduate Programme

The Master of Science programme in Renewable and Sustainable Energy Systems Engineering is intended to impart knowledge and skills that can minimise reliance on foreign services in areas such as production, assembly, and/or re-engineering of energy systems components; feasibility studies, power system studies, and substation and system protection implementation.        Successful master’s graduates will have an enhanced understanding of energy systems technologies, associated engineering project management, business management, and electrical power systems aspects which are integral of the energy sector management, and for enabling local production of energy systems technologies.  Strategically, the programme is intended to: Enhance professional competency for engineers delivering power projects; Impart skills in energy systems analysis from technical, commercial and policy standpoints and the integration of energy systems engineering technology with financial planning; Enhance research for technical, economic and social development of Malawi, Africa, and the World at large; Enhance local production and fabrication of energy systems and associated accessories compatible to local situations in Malawi; Enhance collaboration between industries and academia including foreign Universities, Centres/Institutes through real-world problem-oriented research and fellowship programmes; Enhance the relevance of academic work to socioeconomic development; and Develop entrepreneurial skills for power sector development in Malawi and achievement of national development goals.

The program has a grant from TEA-LP which among others is supporting the inclusion of tree TEA-LP Courses all of which are compulsory modules. These are

  1. Local Solutions for Energy Access
  2. Mini Grids: Planning and Design

Appliances for Off-grid Communities
