Undergraduate Programmes

Bachelors in Library Information Science

AIM of the programe is to:

  •       Provide quality undergraduate education and training in information science to ensure self-reliance, service, and resourcefulness.
  •       To train Information Science students who are capable of working effectively and efficiently in various organizations
  •       Impart entrepreneurial and innovative knowledge and skills for self-employment in information science sector. 
  •      To train Information Science students who can plan, design, develop, oorganise and manage modern and traditional information resources in the country.

Program description

The program will be offered in four (4) academic years. Candidates will be required to conduct research and submit a thesis for the award of BLIS degree.

Entry requirements

MSCE or its equivalent with an aggregate of not more than 30 points in the best six subjects icluding Mathematics and English

AIM of the programme

Address the increased demand for LIS postgraduate education and training
Provide advanced high quality postgraduate education and training in information science to ensure self-reliance, service, and resourcefulness.
To train Information Science graduate who are capable of working effectively and efficiently in various organizations
Impart advanced entrepreneurial and innovative knowledge and skills for self-employment in information science sector.
To train Information Science professionals who can plan, design, develop, oorganise and manage modern and traditional information resources in the country.

Program description

The program will be offered in two (2) academic years. In the first year, students will do full-time taught (face-to-face) course work on Mzuzu University campus. In the second year, upon successful completion of course work, candidates will be required to conduct research and submit a thesis for the award of an MLIS degree.

Entry requirements

Includes the following:
Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) degree or equivalent
A four year Bachelor’s degree in any field plus a postgraduate Diploma in Information Science related field
Applicants with work experience in Information sciences will have an added advantage.
