The Childrens Library and Information Centre is committed to promoting information literacy, developing reading culture, and creating appropriate reading and learning environment for the children of Malawi through the provision of information resources, activities, and training that respond to 21st century information needs.
VISION
To be a leading centre in the promotion of independent and lifelong learning, adaptive skills, and culture in children of Malawi and Africa.

Childrens Library and Information Centre, Mzuzu University Childrens Library and Information Centre is the University’s outreach services to communities around the University. It was established in 2004 with funding from Mzuzu University and Beit Trust in response to the needs of the community and Malawi’s strategic sustainable goals. The Childrens Library is one of the vehicles of accomplishing part of University’s mission of providing complimentary services to meet the technological, social and economic needs of individuals and communities in Malawi. The Childrens Library also supports the University’s operating thrusts of outreach and research.
OBJECTIVES
- Promote and sustain reading culture and information literacy skills
- Encourage lifelong learning by stimulating interests and fostering competencies in effective use of of ideas and information
- Play an advisory role on issues of reading, information literacy, and use of technology for teaching and learning
- Generate knowledge and skills about best reading practices and strategies through action research and share with stakeholders
- Disseminate information of isuues that concern children such as health, sanitation human rights and llife skills
- Provide a centre for cultural education
- Demonstrate the ability to create a positive educational environment in a literate, technology-rich and inviting library atmosphere
