Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences
Sustaining Aquatic Ecosystems, Advancing Fisheries Management
Water bodies are a vital source of food, biodiversity, and livelihoods. At the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, we are committed to training the next generation of fisheries experts and aquatic scientists who will drive sustainable management of inland water resources in Malawi and across Africa.

About our Department
Established in 2007, our department was created in response to the growing need for trained professionals in fisheries management, aquatic conservation, and sustainable resource utilisation. Since then, we have trained and graduated Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral students who are now making meaningful contributions to fisheries governance, aquaculture development, marine biology, and environmental conservation across the continent.
Programmes
Our curriculum is designed to equip students with scientific knowledge, practical skills, and innovative solutions for managing aquatic resources.
