Stanley Ndebvu

Biography

Stanley Ndebvu is a Lecturer in the ICT department. He teaches ICT and Data science courses. His areas of interest are Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing, with a strong focus on speech and text processing for African languages. Stanley Holds a BSc in ICT from Mzuzu University and an MSc in Computer Science and Technology from Harbin Institute of Technology in China. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science at the University of Botswana.

With expertise in deep learning, neural text-to-speech (TTS) architectures, and data- driven linguistic analysis, Stanley has worked on developing cheap methods for annotating datasets for low-resourced languages, fine-tuning transformer-based models, and speech synthesis techniques tailored for low-resource languages. His work also extends to data science and AI education. Notable achievements include:

  • Lead the development of the Virtual Science laboratory for Malawian Secondary schools.
